Sedimentary

An Elegant Curse

Prospicience

Composition, performance, and video art: Adam T. Torres

In Sedimentary, instrumentation and pitch are among the parameters of the piece that are unspecified. Moreover, choices of form, dynamics, and texture are also on the table for anyone who’s picks up the piece, leaving the interlocking rhythms to be the only concrete parameter. Originally composed at the onset of the pandemic lockdown, Sedimentary was inspired by Steve Reich’s Clapping Music, and Music for Pieces of Wood, and is the product of a longing for musical accessibility and community.

Composition and video art: Adam T. Torres

Performance: Johnaye Kendrick

An Elegant Curse attempts to explore the gradual and imperceptible change in our behavior and perception that is an inevitable outcome of our interaction and dependence upon technology. Whether we choose to engage or not, technology plays an increasing role in our lives and has even become a factor in defining our sense of self.

Composition and video art: Adam T. Torres

Performance: Darcy Copeland (flute & cello), Adam T. Torres (melodica & cajon)

Inspired by George Lewis’ Shadowgraph, Prospicience challenges its players to play a game of telepathy. Housed in graphic score, its realization is an interpretive cycle of that often leaves its participants engaged yet bewildered.
